Our History

The Vermont Theatre Company is a nonprofit theater organization which began in Burlington. It was reestablished in Brattleboro in 1984 by Ray Jenness, the original Artistic Director and mastermind. VTC is proud of the productions it has presented in and around Brattleboro. Titles range from comedy to tragedy, contemporary to classic.

In 1990 VTC produced Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream and launched what has become an annual tradition of Shakespeare in the Park at the Rotary Club Amphitheater in Brattleboro's Living Memorial Park. Presented on the last weekend of June, it has attracted hundreds of actors and thousands of picnickers over the years.

VTC is committed to a policy of open auditions and is proud to introduce to our audiences new talent alongside seasoned performers. We employ a wide variety of directors from the tri-state area, many of whom have extensive professional theater backgrounds. In addition to providing these opportunities for our neighbors and ourselves, we intend to offer high quality theater at affordable prices and to offer shows which will entertain and excite the imaginations of our diverse and discerning audience.
